From Hippocrates to tone
The history of tone is the record of how medicine learned to read the body as a regulated state rather than a set of parts. Forty-seven milestones run from Hippocrates through the anatomists, the electrophysiologists, and the systems theorists to the Unified Model of Tone, which holds that muscle tone, vascular tone, autonomic tone and cortical tone are one regulatory system read at different sites.
